About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and the tour made them a household brand across the globe.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name a different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring group includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

In 1996, the band came back together to tour and make an album. This was the first time all of the original members were on stage together for more than a decade.
The following year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time that all of Toto's original members appeared on stage at once. The group broke up after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all the original Toto members were performing together for more than 31 years.
